Generally, the steps in writing a research paper are:
- Select a topic
- Find and evaluate sources
- Begin reading and taking notes
- Develop a working thesis
- Continue reading and taking notes
- Develop a working outline
- Prepare a first draft
- Edit
- Prepare a final draft
